Voter Services Leader, Committee Members Needed

Glenda Wolin, VP of Voter Services | Published on 12/5/2024

As LWVSA's Voter Services team expands its efforts and the current leader steps back, we are seeking a new leader and members to add to the committee that helps with the Voters Guide, Vote411 and candidate forums.

Leader

As the leader, you will be trained to use the VOTE411 software, and Glenda will be available to answer questions as needed. The VOTE411 help desk is also excellent at responding to questions. You will also oversee production of the printed Voters Guide. The design and layout are handled by Harry Thomas - our member who is the professional behind most of the graphics, brochures and other materials we produce - with your guidance.

You will also ask the committee members to contact the distributors of the Voters Guide for each election to learn how many they want, and to reach out to candidates who have not responded to our invitations to complete the questionnaire.

Because you will be the face of our nonpartisan, unbiased materials, you must maintain a nonpartisan attitude in public, including not being involved with partisan activities or donating to political groups.

You must be willing to spend many hours on this in the months and weeks before the two main elections each year, but you will have long breaks between elections.

Committee members

You will be doing much of the vital background work in preparing our materials: formulating questions for the candidates to answer in VOTE411 and Voters Guide, calling the people and groups who get the- Voters Guide to see how many copies they want before each election, and finding alternate contact information for candidates who haven't responded to our questionnaire.

After the Voters Guide is put together, you will proofread it (or a portion of it) before it gets printed.

In a big new move starting with the November 2024 election, we added Spanish translation to VOTE411 and Voters Guide. Translation is done by a professional translation firm, but we need a few committee members who are fluent in Spanish to proofread the material.

All the work is done in the months and weeks before the spring and fall elections annually.
