How to Register and Vote When You're In College in Bexar County

If you live in Bexar County:

You have two choices if your family home is in Bexar County but you moved to another location in Bexar County:

  • You can stay registered at your home address.
  • You can change your address by submitting a change request online. You can also sign the form on the back of your Voter Registration certificate or complete a new Voter Registration Application and mail to Elections Department, 1103 S. Frio, Suite 100, San Antonio, TX 78207. Your ballot will include races from your new precinct.

Your application must be received no later than 30 days before the election.


If you moved from another county in Texas:

You have two choices if your family home is outside Bexar County but you reside in Bexar County while you attend college:

Your application must be received no later than 30 days before the election.


If you moved from another state:

  • If you want to vote in Texas, you will need to fill out a Voter Registration Application. You can fill and download it on the Secretary of State's website, then print, sign it and mail it to the Bexar County Elections Office. Or you can get a form from any public library or government office, fill it out and mail it. Your application must be received no later than 30 days before the election.
  • You can also choose to stay registered in your home state and vote by mail. Check your state’s qualifications, deadlines and instructions for applying for an application for a ballot by mail.

Where to vote

If you are registered in Bexar County, you can vote at any local polling site both during early voting and on Election Day. It’s important to change your address when you move because your residence determines which races you will be voting in.

Go to Voter Registration Check & Representative Search on the Bexar County Elections website before the election to get a sample ballot for your address.

Forms of ID needed to vote

When you vote in person in Texas, you must show one of the 7 acceptable forms of photo ID. Student IDs are not accepted. If you do not possess and cannot reasonably obtain one, you can fill out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and show a copy or original of a supporting form of ID from a list. Learn more about acceptable voter ID options from texasvotes.gov.
