About the Youth Initiative

The League of Women Voters San Antonio Youth Initiative was created in 2021, to promote and encourage youth and young adult civic engagement in San Antonio. This initiative is an attempt to engage the next generation to think about democracy, the role of our leaders, the role of our government and most importantly, their role in making democracy work.

Equitable representation in democracy is required for the youth and young people of today to have their voices heard. They are the next generation of leaders, and the LWVSA Youth Initiative is committed to giving them a voice and platform.

The first Annual Contest 'Picture This' was created and led by Devyn Moore and Douglas Mathis. LWVSA Youth focus group brainstormed and named this initiative, Picture This in an attempt to engage the Bexar County youth in imagining the world they want to live in and defining the necessary steps to help build it.

The group imagined the communities they want to live in: a community without gun violence; a community where everyone is equally respected regardless of gender, color of their skin, religion or sexual orientation; in a community where everyone gets an opportunity for good education; a community that respects social justice; and much more.
