Lauren Bick is a San Antonio native and a new member of LWVSA’s Program & Advocacy Committee as of September 2024. After graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas last Spring, Lauren returned to San Antonio eager to participate in local government and advocate for her community. Leading up to the November election, Lauren sought opportunities to get involved in her hometown and was so grateful to discover the League through its admirable work defending democracy and voting rights.
Over the past year, Lauren has worked in the Bexar County Children’s Court Division & Programs, researching critical issues impacting Bexar County foster children, and began serving as the LWVTX Issue Chair on Child Welfare in January. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to converse with Texas legislators about the League’s child welfare and foster care priorities during 2025 Lobby Days and had an amazing time getting to know some of the brilliant volunteers supporting the League’s ongoing and passionate advocacy! With the Program & Advocacy Committee, Lauren has also supported voter outreach and education activities by creating several “how to” and voter tips videos, including one explaining how to navigate the League’s amazing VOTE411.org resource. Finally, in preparation for Texas’ 89th legislative session, Lauren participated in several interviews with Texas legislators to determine key priorities and goals for the session.
Lauren’s background in public health and human rights has always driven her passion for supporting and participating in community organizing and policy advocacy. She has always viewed the open and honest dialogue that the League prioritizes as an amazing way to preserve and promote the civic engagement necessary to sustain our democracy. In her free time, Lauren loves to write creatively about the social and political issues she is passionate about, and enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her adorable pup, Paco. In the future, Lauren hopes to attend law school and is excited about continuing to engage with the League’s admirable mission and priorities to advocate for policies improving the lives of all people.
