Advocating for Foster Children
A community’s most complex challenges often converge on the vulnerable and voiceless—in many cases, children. Texas children remain at risk for a number of reasons, including food insecurity, lack of access to educational resources and healthcare, exposure to risks like gun violence and human trafficking, and other shortcomings in policies and practices that fail to protect kids, especially the most vulnerable in our communities, such as foster youth. They are disproportionately impacted by these challenges. Efforts to address them is a LWV Texas priority during the ongoing legislative session.
The League of Women Voters of San Antonio (LWVSA) is prioritizing efforts to support vulnerable children in the Bexar County area as well. We are focused on raising awareness and supporting efforts to address the problems facing Texas’ most at-risk children, including the nearly 5,000 foster children in Bexar County.
