Youth Initiative Leadership Team

Volunteer Requirements

LWVSA's Youth Initiative is composed of passionate individuals who believe in the power of voting. Their attachment to this movement should not be based on anything besides genuine interest in the league’s mission and what it stands for. Before applying for a position with LWVSA, the volunteer must be vigilant of LWV's nonpartisan policy and agree to abide by it when representing the League. The League of Women Voters is a strictly nonpartisan organization. The League neither supports nor opposes any political party or candidate.


Youth initiative volunteers must agree to a weekly team meeting to facilitate conversation between themselves, their coordinator, and possibly members from LWVSA. It is important to maintain communication with the Youth Initiative Coordinator.

Positions

Volunteers are expected to keep in contact with the Youth Initiative leadership about their work.

  1. Researchers
    LWVSA needs student volunteers willing to research national and international voting laws in order to help construct a well-rounded perspective on Texas voting law, specifically how it compares to other states and other regions. This research can help point out flaws and advantages within our system, as well as provide ideas for improvement, among other things. Additionally, they will be prominent participants in the creation of articles and quizzes to post frequently on the Youth Initiative website.
  2. Canvassers
    LWVSA needs outgoing and friendly student volunteers to build connections and generate more participation within the Youth Initiative. They will be responsible for speaking and maintaining communication with a wide array of interested individuals, among other things.
  3. Social Media Managers
    LWVSA needs student volunteers that are handy with social media communications. They will be responsible for creating informational posts, providing ideas for outreach, and promoting of various opportunities across all social media platforms.
  4. Liaisons
    LWVSA needs student volunteers willing to communicate with a wide array of individuals, including legislators, news outlets, university and high school representatives, election administrators, and various interested volunteers. This requires a highly organized individual who is able to manage multiple discussions weekly.
  5. Representatives
    LWVSA needs student volunteers willing to visually represent LWVSA. They will be responsible for creating and starring in various informational videos, infographics, and much more. They will work with the social media managers in order to create promotional media year-round that caters to a younger demographic.
  6. Presenters
    LWVSA needs student volunteers that are passionate, outgoing, and well-prepared to present at community events. This volunteer will be in a very advantageous position, as they will have the opportunity to network with various important figures across the San Antonio area.
  7. Data Collection and Facilitation Managers
    LWVSA needs student volunteers willing and able to spearhead communication regarding the organization's Voters Guide. These individuals will be responsible for distributing these guides to groups, taking into account the capacity at which they are needed. Consecutively, they will also play a role in contacting and speaking with various running candidates to obtain contact information, as well as remind them to return their questionnaires. Finally, they will play an important role in helping at candidate forums to bring these guides about.
